Belt Sander Fence When I use my stationary belt sander to sand the edge of a board, I have trouble keeping the edge straight and square. To solve this problem I added a fence to the side of my sander. As you can see in Fig. 1, the fence is just an L-shaped piece of plywood screwed to a couple of support arms. To attach the fence, I drilled and tapped a couple of holes in the back side of the sander and then bolted it in place. (You might have to do a little shimming to square the fence to the sanding belt.) Now by holding my workpiece against the fence, it's easy to get a square edge. |
