Corner Clamping
When gluing up frames with mitered corners, I like to use spring miter clamps to hold the pieces together. The strong spring does a good job of keeping the pieces from slipping during the process.
One problem with using this type of clamp is that the sharp ends of the spring leave dents in the workpieces. To prevent this, I clamp hardboard pads to the workpieces before applying the springs as shown in Fig.1.
The pads keep the springs from biting into the workpieces, but the springs still apply enough pressure to clamp the joint tightly (Fig.2).
