Threaded Inserts
I use threaded inserts in quite a few of my shop jigs and
accessories. Whenever I need to install one, I use the chuck on my drill press.
I've found that mounting a cut-off bolt with a couple of "jam" nuts makes it
easy.
Start by drilling an undersized pilot hole for the insert. Then
thread the insert on the bolt, making sure the jam nuts are tightened together.
Now all you have to do is turn the chuck by hand to install the insert straight
(see Drawing).
