Drill Press Indexing Blocks
A recent project called for drilling a row of very acurrately spaced holes. To do this easily on the drill press, I came up with a simple indexing system.
As you can see in the drawing, my system consists of a short fence and a series of U-shaped stop blocks sized to fit over it. The width of the stop blocks matches the center-to-center spacing of the holes.
To drill the holes, the fence is first screwed in place on an auxiliary table. The stop blocks are then positioned over the fence and the last one is fastened with a screw. After each hole is drilled, just remove a stop block and slide the workpiece into position for the next hole.
